LIVING WITH INTENTION - A BIBLICAL APPROACH TO PURPOSEFUL ACTION

DEC. 9th, 2024

In our fast-paced world, it's easy to go through the motions of daily life without truly considering the purpose behind our actions. Whether we’re working, working out, or making decisions, it's important to approach each moment with intention. As Christians, we are called not only to live with purpose but to align our actions with God's will.

The Bible offers timeless wisdom on living intentionally. Here are some key Scriptures that remind us to live with purpose, reflect on our motives, and seek God’s guidance in all that we do.

1. Work Heartily for the Lord – Colossians 3:23
"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men."

Whether it's a task at work, helping a friend, or taking care of household chores, the Bible encourages us to do everything with intention, working as if for God Himself. It’s not about doing things half-heartedly or rushing through them, but about putting in our best effort, knowing that God is honored when we work with diligence and purpose.

By making the conscious decision to approach each task with care and thoughtfulness, we reflect His glory in the small and big things alike.

2. Commit Your Plans to the Lord – Proverbs 16:3
“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established."

Living intentionally starts with committing our plans to God. When we choose to plan with purpose and dedicate our efforts to His will, we can trust that He will guide our steps and establish our ways. This doesn’t mean that every plan will unfold exactly as we envision it, but it means that God will work all things together for our good and His glory.

Start each day with a prayer, asking God to guide your intentions and help you align your actions with His purpose for your life. By doing so, you will begin to see your plans take shape in ways that honor Him.

3. Let All You Do Be Done in Love – 1 Corinthians 16:14
"Let all that you do be done in love."

Living with intention means that everything we do should be done with love—whether it's in our work, relationships, or interactions with others. Love should be the driving force behind our actions. When we approach life through the lens of love, our intentions become more focused, meaningful, and impactful.

This love is not just a feeling but an active choice. It means choosing kindness, patience, and understanding in our actions. With love as our foundation, our daily tasks and decisions carry eternal significance.

4. Do All to the Glory of God – 1 Corinthians 10:31
"So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."

Every action, no matter how small, can bring glory to God when we do it with intention. The Bible teaches that everything we do—whether it's eating, working, or taking care of our daily responsibilities—should be done in a way that honors Him. This doesn't mean we have to be perfect, but it does mean being mindful of how we use our time and talents for His purposes.

Living with this mindset means approaching every moment as an opportunity to worship and reflect God's goodness in our actions.

5. Trust God with Your Plans – Proverbs 16:9
"The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps."

Even with the best of intentions, our plans may not always turn out the way we expect. But when we live with purpose and trust God with the outcome, we can rest assured that He is guiding our steps. Living intentionally also means recognizing that God has a bigger picture in mind for our lives, and sometimes, His direction will lead us down unexpected paths.

When we commit our plans to Him, we can have peace, knowing that He is in control and that His plans for us are always better than we can imagine.

Living with Purpose Every Day

Living with intention is more than just being busy or filling our days with activities—it’s about aligning our hearts with God’s purpose and letting that drive our actions. As we go about our daily tasks, let us remember to work for the Lord, commit our plans to Him, let love be our guide, and trust that He will establish our steps.

By living intentionally, we reflect God's love and faithfulness in all that we do, no matter how big or small. Today, let us choose to live with purpose and to honor Him with our actions.

Reflect and Apply:

- What are the areas of your life where you can be more intentional?

- How can you commit your plans to God today?

- In what ways can you bring glory to God through your daily actions?
